I have always loved wood. I love being in the forest, and love objects crafted from trees.

Upon retiring from a career with a local university, I never anticipated woodturning in my future. In 2003, my husband, Wayne Peterson, and I enrolled in a woodturning class at Alamance Community College. Woodturning became an instant obsession, an intoxication.

Woodturning is a process of discovery and adventure. It is opening a treasure box filled with surprises (delightful and dreadful). My mission is to find the key to unlock the secrets that hide beneath the bark; to seek out what the tree holds in its “heART”, and to craft beautiful objects that will endure and remind us of their origins.

I primarily work with locally obtained, native species of trees that have succumbed to storms or old age. Hillsborough’s grand old trees offer special opportunities to turn new lives for these witnesses to history.

I live in Hillsborough, NC with my husband (Wayne Peterson), 2 dogs and 4 cats (who named our studio “Coon Cat Alley”).
